11 And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling. 12 Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words. 13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.
If you have ever prayed and asked God for favor in a certain situation, know this, He heard you. In the scripture above Daniel had been praying to the Lord and fasting as well. After fasting and praying, Daniel saw a vision. An angel came to him in his vision and reassured him that "…from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself (fast) before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words."
Fasting is important and can bring answers to our requests quicker because we "chasten" ourselves before the Lord. Let's take a look at the word "chasten":
chasten |ˈCHāsən|verb [ with obj. ] (usu. be chastened)(of a reproof or misfortune) have a restraining or moderating effect on: the director was somewhat chastened by his recent flops | (as adj. chastening) : a chastening experience.• archaic (esp. of God) discipline; punish.DERIVATIVESchastener |ˈCHās(ə)nər|nounORIGIN early 16th cent.: from an obsolete verb chaste, from Old Frenchchastier, from Latin castigare 'castigate,' from castus 'morally pure, chaste.'
Chastening yourself is to not please self, the flesh. It is not beating one's flesh to a pulp as was in the movie, "Angels and Demons". The best way to do that is to fast from pleasures. Fasting can be the temporary stopping of the enjoyment of food, sweets, the internet, television, telephone calls, meats, liquids, friends, etc. The enemy wants us to focus on ourselves. What you focus on magnifies. With a good heart-felt fast one can receive visions from Heaven.
In this case, the angel blesses Daniel and tells him that it may have taken 21 days for him to bring the answer to Daniel but he made it nonetheless. For 21 days Daniel's angel fought who is called, "The Prince of Persia" which is interpreted "demon." When looking at 1st Thessalonians 2:18 we see that Paul was hindered by the same. This time it was satan himself. And yes, the Evil One doesn't want you to have any blessings either. he knows where you are going…..Heaven. And he knows where he is going also…..Hell. Jealousy is as cruel as the grave. (Songs 8:6)
There are spirits in high places. There are spirits over counties, countries, cities, nations. When you pray, sometimes it takes a moment for you to receive the answer because your angels are fighting in your honor as the Blessed Child of God that you are. You are grafted in, accepted in the "Family of God" through Jesus Christ, our Older Brother/Lord/Saviour. You are Royalty.
Know this, there may be "princes" over areas and cities but the Chief Prince, Michael, halleluah is there to overcome them all. Michael came to help Daniel's angel and the battle was won, Daniel got his answer and the Lord is praised. Don't let the enemy make you think that your prayer hasn't been heard. God is not deaf, He heard you. Be strong and of good courage. Your answer is coming……
